We’re in the news! Check out the story behind our Indonesia dive trip in February 2025.
Scuba Adventures Plano is making headlines with a unique scuba diving trip that combines history, adventure, and personal discovery. This February, embark on an unforgettable expedition to Indonesia, centered around the story of a World War II B-24 bomber, the “Woody Woodpecker,” and the inspiring journey of one of our divers.
The Story Behind the Dive
Lissa Bennatt Esch, a devoted member of the Scuba Adventures Dive Squad, began her scuba diving journey in 2021 with a dream: to explore the wreck of her grandfather’s B-24 bomber, which lies 70 feet underwater off the coast of Indonesia.
The “Woody Woodpecker” was scuttled in 1945 and rests in the waters of Lembeh, North Sulawesi. This historic wreck, while not a popular dive site, holds immense personal significance for Lissa and her family. After struggling to find a dive operator willing to take her to the site, she turned to Scuba Adventures Plano, her trusted local dive shop.
“It’s incredible how much the community has grown around Scuba Adventures, and we are able to go on such meaningful trips together,” said owner, Brent Webb. “We’re honored to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity.”
With the help of local dive operators in Indonesia, Scuba Adventures meticulously planned a private charter to the exact GPS coordinates of the wreck, turning Lissa’s dream into reality.
Explore Indonesia’s Hidden Treasures
This exclusive 12-night liveaboard itinerary blends historical significance with breathtaking underwater exploration. The journey begins at Bitung Harbour and takes divers to the wreck of the “Woody Woodpecker,” marking 80 years since its descent.
In addition to diving this historic site, the expedition will visit some of Indonesia’s most iconic dive locations, including:
- Lembeh Strait – Known as the muck diving capital of the world, teeming with unique marine life
- Bangka Island – Famous for vibrant coral reefs and underwater biodiversity

“I need to thank Scuba Adventures Plano for making my dreams possible,” said Esch. “You took us in and made us part of your family.”
